Figure. 1 - The TWC upper-air sounding from 00 UTC 1 September 2007. Note that the sounding, taken at face value, indicates absolutely no CAPE. There is a dry spike off surface which frequently shows up in Sippican soundings. The layer from 700 to 550 mb seems suspect and too dry relative to the moderate cumulus that were around, and also relative to the subsequent development of a thunderstorm a few miles to the south.

 

 

 

 


 

Figure. 2 - The TWC sounding at 12 UTC 1 September 2007. Note the "apparent" remarkable increase in Td, both below 650 mb and in the entire middle troposphere. Note also that the observed Td structure below 700 mb seems very suspect with no residual BL indicated.
